: my water heater makes an occasional rumbling noise. What can I do to fix it?Ive been told that when the tank accumulates a layer of sediment on the bottom that a thermal layer of sorts is formed trapping heated h2o. It is sort of like the bubbles in the bottom of a pan of boiling h2o. At first not all of the bubbles reach the surface due to cooliong by surrounding h2o. Its these trapped (under sediment) bubbles that are thaough to cause the sound.TURN THE HEATER CONTROL TO OFF!!!!!!!!!IF YOU DONT TURN THE HEATER TO OFF YOU CAN RUIN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then drain the tank. It may take several times.
