When I open a hot OR cold faucet, my water heater makes a loud popping and cracking noise. Why? And, I think my water heater could have some sediment and/or lime settled in the bottom. How do I get this out? DO NOT USE THIS E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR ANY REASON EXCEPT TO REPLY TO MY QUESTIONS. GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Basically, you need to open that valve and allow the water to flow for a few minutes. You probably will notice some type of sediment – continue until you are satisfied that most of the sediment is gone. Repeat this process annually.
