NO water out of water heater

twice in the last two days, I have had absolutely no water coming out of any hot water spout in the house. No cold water coming out, just nothing at all. Is there a check valve? could it be other blockage? I think water is getting to the tank though.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Marc
