toilet runs every 5 minutes

My toilet runs about every 5 minutes for about 3 or 4 seconds. Ive replaced the flapper twice and now Im trying the Fluidmaster flapper/seat replacement – but it has not stopped the problem. Ive tried putting a bead of silicone around the flapper/seat to try to get a seal, but nothing seems to work for me.After the toilet stops, I shut off the water supply and the water drains down about an inch or two then stops. Any ideas why it does not drain all the way down? Is the flapper seal not the problem?Thanks.

John:–You might check to see if perhaps there is to much of the refill tubing stuck down the overflow tube. This will allow the water in the tank to siphon into the bowl ever so slowly. And of course this will in turn cause the ballcock to fill the tank to start the whole cycle over again endlessly….Akmed

That fixed it!I bought a toilet tune-up kit and I never bothered to trim the refill tube that came with the kit. I wonder how many other people have been bitten by this little trick…Thanks.
