MemberWhat is the current consensus on CPVC and health? I have read some reports about the DEHP chemical (a softening agent in PVC) and its potential as a health problem (link to cancer, etc). Im on a well with not too hard of water and must decide between copper and CPVC (Ive heard of problems of acid from water eating copper pipes).

Participant: What is the current consensus on CPVC and health? : I have read some reports about the DEHP chemical (a softening agent in PVC) and its potential as a health problem (link to cancer, etc). Im on a well with not too hard of water and must decide between copper and CPVC (Ive heard of problems of acid from water eating copper pipes).Greenpeace believe uPVC is carcogenic, They are trying to get things changed to stop production. You decide.DISCLAIMERAll advice is given with-out seeing the job, and hence all advice MUST be taken as advice with limited knowledge on the exact situation. NO responsibility can or will be taken. And yes, I am a licensed plumber with my own business in Brisbane Australia

ParticipantSteve:–I have read several articles on the subject by the Sierra Club and Greenpeace organizations. Im not sure that I can speak with any authority on the subject. Have you considered installing copper piping, and then protecting it by the use of a sacrificial anode device. Copper in the long run will prove to be a far better choice (my personal opinion), many of the recent alternate plumbing materials have turned out to be far less than satisfactory…Akmed
