We moved into a house built in the late 1800s.Our problem is the septic tank is really old it is made of brick and is right next to the house. We get odor in the kitchen right where the tank is. Especially when we use alot of water. Sometimes the fumes our pretty strong. Can you tell me if these odors can be bad for you? I feel like I get a headache from it sometimes. Also we put some sepic care stuff in and that seemed to help. What do you suggest?

The difference is that there is no leach field or pit. I would assume that most of the gas will vent through the opening. Pumping it out will help for a while but a solution would be to vent the gas out of the immediate area while sealing the opening of the tank.
