MemberI live in a 70 year old apartment building with steam-heated radiators. For the past five years I have been putting up with loud banging noises keeping me up all night long. When the banging stops, their is a constant annoying trickle of water flowing. After a while, the noise stops altogether but comes back in full force over and over. The building manager said there is nothing they can do about it and theyve tried everything. I really dont want to move, but I need to figure this out before I go nuts. The building is 10 stories high and the noise is only in one corner all the way up. Do you have any suggestions that I can pass along to the maintenance people? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

ParticipantThe water heater probably needs to be drained of sediment, but this should probably be done during warmer months to avoid loss of heat to residents. If nothing else works you can install acoustical fiberglass wrapping around the pipes in your apt to block and absorb traveling noise. There are special products for this purpose. For example: http://www.soundseal.com has good stuff.: I live in a 70 year old apartment building with steam-heated radiators.
