I am fixing a leaky single stem Moen faucet–and in the package there were 3 washers. i only saw 2 when i took the facet off. where is the 3rd washer located? If i have to remove the diverter, just how do i do it???

You do not specify which Moen faucet you have. Each one uses different washers. You should only need two of the three. But that kit only repairs leaks around the spout where it sits on the sink plate. If it is leaking out of the end of the spout, you need a new cartridge.
