When I twist the knob in the tub to redirect the water to the shower head, only half the water comes out the shower head and the other half continues to come out of the bathtub fawcett. Do I have to get all new fawcetts/shower head, etc. to remedy this problem. This is a three piece system: Fawcett, knob to turn to redirect water, and showerhead.

Your diverter is defective and either needs to be repaired or replaced.
In the majority of cases the actual shower body can be salvaged depending on age and condition.
Call a licensed plumber and double check the employee is at least a journeymen not some fly by night wanna be. Good luck
