Every few weeks, we get a greasy, black residue in our hot water. It happens more frequently when more than one hot water faucet is being used. What could cause this?

It sounds like iron/manganese breaking loose from the water source lines or the lines in your dwelling. You can check with the water supplier and ask them to check the lines on your street. For your home, we suggest you go to our website at http://www.aquasmartinc.com. We will be happy to help you if you wish to contact us directly.

This turned out to be rubber from the flex hoses attached to the water heater. I replaced them with copper and the problem went away.
