        We have a house – plumbing is system approximately 50 years old. we have a heavy drip (leak) in the bathtub faucet – hot water. filled a 5 gallon bucket in a matter of minutes. pulled off the hot water handle assembly – what to do now?

          If you still have the vavle assembly off, is the washer all chewed up or broken? If it is chewed up your vavle seat is shot. Its not difficult to fix but you will need a special tool to do it. The tool has a 90 degree bend in it to act as a handle and the ends look like allen keys stacked on top of each other. At any rate take out the seat and take it to any hardware store they will be able to replace it. I would suggest that you do both hot and cold and replace the washers at the same time. Make sure to use either thread tape (teflon) or pipe dope on the seat threads. Its real easy.
