First, spray WD-40 down the overflow liberally and frequently to try to free the stopper. After doing this for a day or two, then get a length of 3/32 welding rod and bend a U hook on the end of it. At the other end bend an L pointing in the same direction so you will be able to tell which way the U is pointing. The short side of the U shuld be about 1 1/2 long, and the bend between the two sides should be as close as possible and the sides should be spread apart about 3/4. Slide the rod down the drain, until the U is below the level of the tub drain. Then pull it up and try to catch the handle on the plug. Keep pushing it down, turning a little and pulling up until you catch it. Once you have caught the plug, try pulling on it If it does not come easily at first, then start making short, hard up and down jerks to try and dislodge it. Occasionally pull up on it very hard and then continue with the jerking until it either comes loose or the handle on the plug breaks. If it breaks, there is nothing else you can do toremove it except go behind the tub and take the drain apart. If the U straightens out and loses the plug, make a new one but make the short side longer and the bend sharper. : want to pull out the cut rod connected to the drain stopper
