This is for the most standard type of tub drain.Take the two screws out of the face plate where you toggle the drain open and closed and pull it all the way out–there will probably be two rods with a clylindrical stopper at the end. Put a plunger over the drain, put a few inches of water in the tub, and you need to hold a rag over the hole that the face plate covered or all your plunging will just push air out of it because the drain and overflow are connected behind the tub. Also if there is a strainer over the drain remove it. Now plunge the drain—when I do it I not only push hard but also pull back hard on the pluger to try and suck the crud out. After that the drain usually works fine. Then throw out the Liquid Plumber!: I have tried liquid plumber, crystal drano : it takes 24 hours for the tub to drain between showers : what else can I do?
