My approx 10 year old electric water heater is leaking around the area where the electricity goes into the tank. Any ideas on what the problem could be, turned everything off

If the heater is 10 yrs old it is likely that the tank is leaking and will need to be replaced. First you want to make sure it is/isnt the tank. Check all the tank tappings—where the hot and cold water lines, relief valve, drain valve, elements and possibly the anode are threaded into the tank to see if the water is coming from these. If none of these ares shows signs of leakage you can safely assume (because you cant see the whole tank) that it is the tank. Also if it is less than 10 yrs old find out whether the tank has a 10 year warranty against leakage—you may be able to get a free tank. Make sure you keep the power off when checking though.: My approx 10 year old electric water heater is leaking around the area where the electricity goes into the tank.
