We are buying a house that the seller must replace the septic tank in. The leachfield sits considerably higher atop a fairly steep grade so it will need a mercury pump. The seller said he will install a plastic 1000 gal. tank. Is plastic as good? Is it cheaper? Why would he be using plastic versus concrete? The house sits atop a cliff with a river view. Do pumps malfunction often and if so how difficult would it be to replace it? Thank you! Robin

          (A) Plastic should work as well as concrete IF the ambient groundwater levels dont cause it to float when empty. (After pumping the tank)(B) Buy a good pump and have someone who is particular install it. You will get longer life from the pump system and future service should be easy. Dont bury the cover over the pump.
