Ive just bouught a house without any plumbing and would like to install a cistern hand pump at the kitchen sink, The water level to where the pump will be is about 18 – 20 feet. And the house is about 200 feet from a river. There is already a sandpoint in the ground located directly under the kitchen sink area in the basement. I was wondering if I tie the cistern pump directly into the sandpoint if it will draw the water up? Ive asked several local people here but no one uses cistern pumps anymore. They all have sandpoints with jet pumps. So no one knows the answer. Thank you

Dale:…Im not familiar with the term cistern pump, in all probability, it is the same as what we call a pitcher pump. If there is any water in the well (providing that its not deeper than 25) the pitcher pump will do a fin job of lifting it to your kitchen sink. For best operation, install a good quality well check valve under the pitcher pump so that it will hold its prime. These pumps are available from Sears Catalog, or thier Farm Catalog……Lots of luck with your new Home. Bud

I have a well on my carport that used to be active. Now it is a hole, level with the concret. When I drop a small pitcher down in it, I hit water at about 14 feet. I want to install a pitcher pump on some type of barrel or stand so it will be about waist high. Can you get me any pointers on installing this so I can bring my water up and also leave it so that I can treat it, when necessary?
