I remember a few years ago that there was a product on the market that apparently was substandard. It is a gray flexible tubing used to run water in homes. There were reports out about its potentialpoblems but I cant remember what they were. I am putting my house on the market and wondering if there is really a problem I need to be aware of with this tubing ? PLease advise…..THANKS!

ParticipantFred: The pipe that you are aluding to is no doubt POLYBUTYLENE TUBING, it comes in blue, gray, and some of the older stuff was black. There has been a class action suit against Shell Oil Company, and Celenese Corporation of America for failures of this material and the failure of the fittings made from acetal resin manufactured by Celenese Corp. This suit has been funded by almost a Billion dollars to be paid out to qualifing owners of housing having this type of piping. The statute of limitations is starting to have an effect on those eligable to file for compensation. ParticipantInside the residence, you have 12 years from construction to file a claim, ( and it may be only for the original owner). If the house is outside this time frame, or the new buyer has a problem after that time, guess who they are going to try to get to pay the replacement.: I remember a few years ago that there was a product on the market that apparently was substandard.
