I just moved into a house and the bathtub drain is missing a part. The part is on the drain and
you have to turn it one way to stay open and the oppisite way to close it. I went to the local hardware
store and I purchased the exact same drain. Now my only problem is how do I remove the old one. The only
part that is left is the metal ring in the hole. I know the part is either held in by plumbers putty or
silicon, but how do you get the old drain out?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unscre it counter clockwise with a spud tool (looks like a 2 pronged fork – special tool)
