: Is there a trick to getting a snake down a bathtub drain? It just wont go down.Have you removed the top of the waste and overflow cover? A tub snakes from the top, (overflow) not the bottom of the drain. If you still have trouble getting the snake past the p-trap, you can try putting the snake cable at different angles. I sometimes have good luck with the snake coming from a lower angle which induces a bend in the cable. Regards, Terry Love

Instead of snaking it, I use my shop vac. I have had pretty good luck: John Jacobsen

Only a floor drain & trap. Snake will go in about 1 foot and no more. Are there different types of snakes?
