Seth, if you plan on living in your townhouse for a long time, don’t think about getting the re-pipe done cheap, think about getting it right. I would definately go with copper.
Also, DO NOT listen to 4th year and intentially damage the polybutylene. Not just is it dumb to destroy your own house, but it is also tantamount to FRAUD. People go to jail for that, and its VERY irresponsible for anyone to suggest perpetrating it.
Do the right thing, and let your conscience be your guide. After all, you have to look yourself in the mirror in the morning.
