Dear Janice,The source of your problem is dual-fold: 1. Residual foods and organics that remain behind after each wash gradually rot and decay (with or without bacteria); and 2. Some odor causing bacteria may be present, which produce additiona odors.A solution to this problem would be to treat your dishwasher in the following manner:Firstly, in order to get rid of the residual organics which have been allowed to accumlated over the last two years, you can use Bacteria Concepts FOREVER GONE. Run the dishwasher without any dishes within, using FOREVER GONE (at least 1 cup) as the soap to be added. After 1 cycle is complete, spray FOREVER GONE (undiluted) onto all internal hard surface areas of the dishwasher. Leave overnight. FOREVER GONE contains safe bacteria that efficiently eat up residual organics and convert them to carbon dioxide and water.The next day, run a common disinfectant (lysol or a 5% Hydrogen peroxide solution) through your dishwasher to disinfect it. This will help to remove odor causing and any disease causing microorganisms present. I do not recommend that bleach be used, as it is highly corrosive and may damage the sealants in the dishwasher. Check with the manufacturer to see if your dishwasher can tolerate bleach, if you wish to use it.
