I seem to remember seeing a few disposals that did what you described…But I cant remember if they worked okay or required replacement??? If your disposal plugs in under the sink, plug a light or something in that recepticle to make sure a circuit breaker didnt trip in your circuit breaker box. If you have electricity there, and the disposal still makes no sound, it probably needs replacement.
