: A question for the pros:These days solid wood is a misnomer unless you go to a specialty manufacturer and buy one of cypress, teak or mahagony or oak which will withstand moisture (big bucks) with real brass hingers. The wood seats commonly seen are chipboard, or pressed sawdust which is painted. A heavy grade solid plastic in the $50.00 range will last a long time because of the color going all the way through and the hinges being an integral part of the seat. This is for residental seats. Commercial seats in solid plastic are even heavier. Hope this Helps ROD
