: A few months ago I noticed a faint hammering noise in the cold water pipe when I turned on the water. Lately, the noise has increased and is very annoying. If I just barely turn on the water (hot or cold), the cold water pipe rattles until I open the valve all the way. Then when I turn off the water the hammering starts again and lasts for a few seconds. It happens with toilets, the dishwasher, washing machine, and every faucet. Can you bleed air out of the pipes like you do with a cars brakes? If so, how do you do it? Thanks for the help.Sounds like it could be a loose washer, seal, or other part in a valve somewhere. Try turnning off various fixtures under the link, washing machine, water heater etc. and see if it stops.good luck
