Ticking noises are normal when the pipes are allowed to slide in contact with hangers and beams; releasiing them from fubbing stops the ticking.
Banging is another matter. It might be steam collapsing inside the boiler water from inadequate flow or combustion explosions. These should be onserved to find the source and corrected as well.
