I am selling my house. The buyers did there inspection and have a problem with the fact that the washer drains to the sump pump and the sump pump sends the water up to the city sewer system. The home is 35 years old and has never had a problem with working in this manner. Now the buyers want me to bring the washer drainage up to code? I had 2 plumbers check the set up and they said it was fine as is. This could not be done in a new home, but for the age this is fine. When the sellers contacted the master plumber that the guys at my house worked for he said no it was no correct the way it is set up and needs to be brought up to code. Is the current set up a problem? Is this something that can be grandfathered? Why is this a problem. I should add the washer is in the basement about 5 feet below the connection to the city water syetem. Any adivce would be appreciated!

You are right there , the only way you could solve this is move washer up on 1st. fl. If they dont like it well tell them there are other buyers, or reduce the price of the house a little to compensate for the cost of moving washer upstairs.
