I have an old “Standard”, 1 inch, showerhead that needs to be replaced. It connects to a galvanized pipe with a nipple insert. The problem I have is that all new showerheads are 1/2 inch and I cannot convert using attachments to the nipple. How can I replace this old showerhead with a new one?

I am not sure what you mean by a “nipple insert”, since the 1″ pipe itself should be the nipple. It sounds like this is not a very elegant installation, so a chrome 1 1/2 reducer, or bushing, depending on the situation, should give you the required 1/2″ opening.
