tapping noise in wall when draining

When I drain either my sink, bath or showers in one of my upstair bathrooms. There’s a ticking or tapping noise inside the wall or the ceiling downstair. I don’t see any water stains on the ceiling. Can anyone tell me if it’s a leak in the draining pipe or is it something else that causes the noise?

If you have pvc pipe then it could be the pipe expanding & contracting in the wall when hot water is drained, mine sometimes does it with cold water expecialy when it is cold outside.
