        Howdy,
I bought a house. It has a cutout in the basement floor for a sump pump. I noticed that two pipes were delivering our recent rain water to this “cutout”. Is that odd to have pipes under the floor like that????

          Hello Tommyboy,

The pipe under your basement floor routed to your sump pit allows the ground water around the basements foundation to drain. If there where no pipes, pressure would build up around the foundation and crack the concrete. The pipe acts as a water release for the pressure. Make sure you have a good sump pump and I recommend a high water alarm if the basement is finished out.
