        Hi,
I am new to the board and have some questions?
I have a plumber coming out and when he came over yesterday he said he is going to move some things around??
As it is now the water heater and furnace are next to each other and have separate gas lines feeding each one, The plumber said he is going to just run 1-1″ feed line to the water heater and furnace, then t-off a couple of feet before the furnace and water heater, then run lines to each from the t.
Is this the correct way of doing this?
here’s a diag of what he wants to do.

Yes, we install them this way all the time with each gas unit having it’s own shut-off valve after the 1″*1/2″*1/2″ “T”.

There were some old codes that required the shut-off valves to be installed 5′ above the floor for each unit and that is why you have a separate pipe drop to each one.

So long as each appliance has it’s own shut off valve for isolation and that the pipe sizing is adequate for the gas load it can really be done in any manner – but most tradespeople would make it neat and tidy and also minimise the number of fittings needed to acheive the result.
