I live in Murrumbeena which is a Melbourne suburb. I have a 15 year old Braemar D45 wall-furnace which has a problem with the pilot which is difficult to light and will not stay alight. I had 3 visits from a serviceman and after charging me $123 the problem became worse. The serviceman then gave up. I have spoken to a Braemar gasfitter who reckons it’s not worth fixing, although he hasn’t looked at it. He suggested that I buy a new Braemar at a cost of $1400 installed. I would prefer to get the old one fixed. After all, how hard can it be to fix a faulty pilot? Can anyone recommend a Melbourne plumber/gasfitter who may be able to help me?

The thermocouple has been replaced. I can sometimes get the pilot to stay alight but when I turn the main burner on the pilot goes out after a few seconds (the burner actually fires up and runs for those few seconds).

The problem has been solved! I asked around and found an experienced gasfitter who knew what the problem would be without even looking at the wall-furnace. He replaced the thermal switch and all is okay
