Wanted to find out if it is a good idea to install an automatic water feed on my steam heat system. Would like to spent 3 months vacation and have no one available to fill the boiler every 2 to 3 days.

Steam heat is part of the charm of living with an antique system first designed before the turn of the LAST century.
Taking vacations is for the folks who have gone to automatic hot water heat. Ignore a steam boiler that has an automatic feed for three months and chances are high your automatic will wash the downstairs rugs with water from the upstairs radiators.
