Upstairs shower in 4 bathroom home produces a high pitched whine when the shower is turned off. Vibration can be felt in shower faucet handle and sink handles. The whine last from 1 to 3 minutes and tapers off gradualy. Seems to have started after city flushed mains, how can it be isolated/fixed ????

Sounds like you have a press. build up. also pipes with obstruction in them will cause a whinng noise and also unreamed pipe and valves. If you have PRV take it apart and see if dirt got caught under washer and put back and turn Press. down, if water co. worked on main then you might have dirt in valve.

RP’s suggestion about high pressure and pipe restrictions sounds right, but these things would explain only a very brief (several seconds) period of pipe whining when the valve is closed. Such whining that contines for 1-3 minutes after valve closure is hard to explain, unless the valve is leaky.
