The water want stop running and then over fills the tank. What do I do????

This problem can only be caused by a faulty or improperly set tank ball/float valve. In my opinion, the old style ball-float valves are best replaced by newer style cylindrical float valves, so if you have the old style, replace it. Fiddling with the float adjustments requires some plumbing knowledge.
