Is it necessary to caulk the base of a toilet after installing it with a wax ring? If the wax seal goes bad and the base is caulked, how would you know if you had a leak if water couldn’t go past the base? And by the time it compromised the base caulk I imagine there would be a lot of water damage.
It all depends on what plumbing code you are under.The UPC code says it needs to be caulked.I haven’t got time to debate the issue with the writers of the code. I just do it.
