Most manufacturers do not want the use of any teflon product on gas piping or oil lines. : Can you use teflon tape on natural gas connections ?

There is a yellow teflon tape intended for natural gas piping. I am not enthusiastic about tape on any pressure system, since the integrity of the joint depends on the proper application of the tape.: Can you use teflon tape on natural gas connections ?

: Can you use teflon tape on natural gas connections ?Wow I cannot believe anyone would give you an answere to such a broad question. I have installed gas Oxygen lines in hospitals. I have installed Acetylene GAS for a commerical welding shop. I have installed Ntrous oxide gas lines and LPG and Natural gas lines. For example if you mixed grease with the oxygen GAS line you have an instant explosion. Certain Gases may react with the teflon. Depending on the type of gas Fuel or what ever medium your using your best bet is to contact the 1- Manufacturer Teflon( Dupont) 2- The local code authorties. My personal opinion I never use Teflon on Gas. I use other paste type of chemicals (not permatex) as it can dry out then crack and then cause leaks. You may also wish contact your local gas supplier and ask their opinion. Are you using Union Carbide gases or natural gases and how high is the Sulfur content? Giving a SNAP answere sight unseen and not bothering to even ask what type of gas is one scary thought. Did you know that even in places like NYC the specific gravity of Natural gas differs alot and you must actually take that into consideration when sizing the piping. One cubic foot of Natural can vary from 900 BTUs per cubic foot to 1200 BTUs. In case of Gases take nothing for granted. Ask your GAS Supplier pleaseeee. Sylvan
