I turned on the switch to our garbage disposal, and all I got was a hum. I used the wrench to unjam it, but it still hums. The little wheels inside the disposal are turning when I use the wrench. Is there something else I can do or is it time for a new disposer? This one is over 4 years old.
If the unit turns freely with the wrench, i.e. no stickiness at any point, then the motor is burned out and you need a new disposer.: I turned on the switch to our garbage disposal, and all I got was a hum. : Preventitive maintenance option: Never use your garbage disposal without running hot water from your kitchen faucet. This could help prevent motor problems from occuring and from waste build up in the garburator.
