I am renting a home that has a small bathroon that was remodeled a year before I moved in. The toilet smells like an outhouse, and it was new when it was remodeled, so the the landlady told my husband and I. I have bought all kind of cleaners, and nothing seems to keep this smell away more than a day or so. It smells like an outhouse, and it is embarrassing when I have company, because I dont want them to think I dont clean my toilet. I believe it is from the sewer, if so what can be done, and is it the responsibility of my landlady to get this matter fixed. She suggested changing something that was on the floor under the toliet. She had a plummer come, and on the day he came he said he didnt smell the odor. Like I said the cleaners I use, and I have used them all, only work for a day or two, and the odor is right back even stronger. She claims she never selled nothing when she lived here. I am too embarrassed to ask my neighbor is she having the same problem, because I dont really have much to say to them except hello. Please tell me what to do that will eliminate this odor.

Renee: Im 25 yrs in business and for the last 15+ yrs we WILL NOT respond to a call such as you described for several reasons. Its not uncommon to have an experience such as the plumber who arrived at your home only to not smell a thing. If odor was sooo pervasive as to be embarrassing why could he not smell? Most odors are a cleanliness issue not a plumbing issue. Thouroughly check the carpet, grout, tile, linolium around the base of the toilet and DO NOT make any assumtions about origin of smell. Everyone assumes smell comes from plumbing when that is seldom the case. Put your face into the toilet bowl and smell. Do the same with the bathroom sink and shower. Smell around the base of toilet. Ask a close friend (before influencing them with your desciptions) if they detect any odor in said bathroom. Is bowl completely chaulked to floor? Some people are simply more sensitive to smells than others and professionaly a smell presents so many problems that I can no longer in good conscience charge my customers money to solve that problem. Our success rate was never very impressive as its a bit like trying to find a ghost that the occupants are convinced inhabit their home, where does one begin to look? Good luck, Lane.I am renting a home that has a small bathroon that was remodeled a year before I moved in. Dear Renee,If the source of the odors are from the septic tank or sewerage system, then this is a common problem which occurs and one that can be easily solved using Bacteria Concepts SEPTI-MATE and SEPTI-SHOCK.When used on a regular basis, these products help to greatly reduce or eliminate bad odors from the septic tank, slows down the sludge build-up process, maintains proper biological activity of the septic tank and where applicable, keeps leach fields free-flowing.For old bathrooms, even ones that have been remodelled, another common problem is the accumulation of waste organics (urine, soap scum, etc.) in porous areas of the bathroom (for example, the grouting, within cracks, etc.). Chemical cleaners cannot remove such soils. However, Bacteria Concepts BUSY BAC contains bacteria that can dive into these out-of-reach areas and degrade any organics present – thus removing the source of the bad odors. We encourage you to contact us to order some product to solve the problem. You will also received detailed instructions on how to use the product to solve the problem you are facing.Bacteria Concepts manufactures the highest quality bacterial products on the market. Each contains a scientific blend of multiple strains of naturally occurring active bacteria, which function precisely to solve a specific problem. The blend is synergistic, which means that all strains are compatible with each other and compliment each others activity. The strains are chosen to be highly resistant to disinfectants, sanitizers, and to hot water. This feature permits their use in any normal home, commercial or industrial environment without imposing undo restrictions on accepted methods or on personnel. All bacteria strains used are non-pathogenic (i.e. they do not cause disease) and thus, will not harm humans and pets.Bacteria Concepts products are non-toxic, fully biodegradable and hence, environmentally friendly.Best regards,Customer ServiceBacteria Concepts, Inc. 1400 Brook Drive Downers Grove, IL 60515-1025 U.S.A.
