Im looking for stories about 1.6 toilets from plumbers and homeowners view points. Are they workable? Do many homeowners take their toilets with them when they move? Do the 1.6 toilets save water? Is it illegal to install the old toilets that require more water to flush? Will we go back to the older toilets? Comments may be used in a newspaper story. I look forward to hearing from you. Ed

Ed Hi Ed. 1.6 toilets are the law in NYC and I was fortunate to be part of the greater NYC WC change out program Yes 1.6 toilets work BUT not all brands are created Equal. I have personally installed over 1,500 toilets and had only ONE CALL BACK. Rather than take a chance of being sued for naming all the lousy brands out there ILL just tell you the one brand that gave me no trouble what so ever. CRANE toilets in MY PROFESSIONAL OPINION are the best toilet money can buy PERIOD!! They cost me under $59 ea and the ones that cost 10 times more not only never worked properly and make noise but are just plain GARBAGE. Before I installed the 1.6 toilets for any of my victims (accounts) I did put one one my office and tested it like crazy. I mean real world testing not the class room or factory tests. I put paper towels/ kitty litter and anything else a Normal house hold would throw down a toilet. The Crane took everything I threw down it. too bad the expensive guys didnt think of the basics. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). Saving water is the right thing to do.You do not need 3.5 gallons to do it. If you need more input please contact my web and I will answere you to the best of my ability. Respectifuly SylvanLMP

Sylvan: I read your thread about the 1.6 gals per flush toilets. You indicated that the toilet of your preference is the Crane line. I agree. My question is : Does the pressure system toilet with the Sloan FLUSHMATE any good or would I be just as well off, or maybe better off, sticking with the cheaper type normal (gravity) flush type? I would appreciate your response, since you have put in many of all kinds. I value your experience!! Thanks, Ric

I happen to have a Certificate/Diploma hanging in my office from the Sloan company stating I went through their class on this very product. The Sloan Flushometer Valve is FANTASTIC top rate. As a matter of fact I ONLY USE SLOAN ROYAL Flushometers even in my own home. But I would only install the flushmate in MY WORST enemies house. Anyone who I hated I would be more than happy to have this device install there (As long as they didnt live close to me as I love QUIET) I have a great Video on how to repair/adjust and other great tid bits from Sloan.I love GRAVITY for Low down tanks ( gravity is fool proof NO MOVING PARTS) The Sloan Royal Flushometer 3.5 Model 110 or even the 1.6 is great. Like I said I only use Sloan Royal or Sloan Gem Piston type when a Diaphragm cannot be used. For inside a toilet tank Give me Fluid master 400a STRICTLY nothing else. I like things that are easy to repair LAST long and have minimum moving parts to go wrong. The Sloan Royal is the Rolls Royce of Flushometers The Flushmate in my humble opinion is a Loud Speaker echo chamber nightmare. KISS is my motto Keep It Simple stupid. For tank and bowl (gravity) Crane has been great. this is my first choice for T&B and when I am stuck ILL settle for Gerber. Gerber also gave my little problems but it cost a little more generally and as far as my opinion Crane is a better Choice. I only would use these two brands. I have removed several of other brands that just didnt work. Not working means requiring 2 and even 3 flushes. CHEAP internal parts. Loud flushing sounds little or no vortex. I hope this answers you question. For approx. $59.00 CRANE cannot be beat at any price. Respectfully SylvanLMP

Ed, http://www.terrylove.com/crtoilet.htm There are many 1.6 toilets that work well. Terry Loves Consumer report on low flow toilets is based on the international input of working plumbers. These are the products that plumbers love to use. By the way, many people are replacing their 3.5 with the new 1.6 because they like them better. Terry
