We purchased our home about a year ago and noticed the first time it rained that the toilets would overflow and the showers would not drain. When someone took a shower in the main bathroom toilet water would come up in the bedroom bathroom. We then discovered that we had a large live oak tree planted ajacent to the septic tank. We our getting the tree removed but there our roots surrounding the septic tank and all over the entire surrounding area which means these roots are all thru the drainage field. What my question is If I dig a new drainage field how long does it have to be. Any info you could give me would be appreciated. I have never attempted to do anything like this before. I live in Florida and the soil is sandy. There are no rocks to contend with. Thanks
You might also want to remove the septic tank lid. You may discover that the roots have infiltrated and filled the tank.: We purchased our home about a year ago and noticed the first time it rained that the toilets would overflow and the showers would not drain. You should, as hj sugested, lift the lid and see if roots have entered the tank. As for sizing your field, Check with the local state office. I could give you advice but the regulations vary from Country to country. Best advice i would give now would be take a soil sample and have it analized for percent of sand, sit, clay.
