My hot water tank keeps shutting off and needs resetting almost weekly. The water seems to get unusually hot just prior to shut off. What is the problem. Thanks

One or both thermostats could be bad, if one is bad it is most likely the top one, especially if it is a non-adjustable model. And/or one or both elements could be burned out. You have to check all four items to see if they are functioning properly.: My hot water tank keeps shutting off and needs resetting almost weekly.
