Lately, weve been hearing a humming noise in our walls that lasts for a couple of minutes each time we run hot water and wondered whether we got some air in the water heater. Would it help to drain some water out?

There could be a number of things causeing this: the most common is hot water lines expand(when hot) and contract(as they cool). Also a valve washer could be loose somewhere on the supply line. Sometimes pressure balanced valves will do this and tobe taken apart and cleaned up. good luck!

Sounds like you need a water hammer arrestor.
