Why would hot water flow from the cold water side of every faucet in my home? It will turn cold after a few minutes of running but will return to hot at the next use.

: Why would hot water flow from the cold water side of every faucet in my home? It will turn cold after a few minutes of running but will return to hot at the next use. Here are a few thoughts:?-Is the water very hot like the heater is overheating and causeing excessive pressure. ?-Is it possible that somewhere in the house a shower valve is on with just the shower head cut off. this will cause cross over. ?-have you noticed any white particles in the water this could indicate dip tube in heater has failed. also less hot water that normal. ?-is this something that has just begun or was it like that from the beginning-may need heat trap at cold water inlet on heater.

I checked all the shower heads. Nothing wrong there. The problem is about two weeks old in a 6 year old house. I havent noticed any white particles in the water. The amount of hot water seems normal. Before I began turning back the water temp the water was even hot on the input to the water heater.Phil V

Is the floor hot? Your symptoms are what one would expect from a major hot water leak under a concrete slab heating up all the pipes under the slab.: Why would hot water flow from the cold water side of every faucet in my home? It will turn cold after a few minutes of running but will return to hot at the next use.
