My wife & I are having our bath remodeled. Weve decided that we really want to have a built-in cast iron tub since weve been very happy with it in the past and havent been impressed with the substitutes that are taking the place of cast-irons.Now heres the rub, our existing 30+ year old Amercian Standard tub is no longer being made nor is anything like its style available on the market. The ideal solution would seem to be having the old tub refurbished but NOT using epoxy (or other non-porcelain) coatings. Id like to have NEW porcelain applied and fired onto the old base tub. I havent found anyone who does such work via the WWW. Can anyone give me a lead to someone who does? Thanks, Patrick Martin Bethesda, MD

No, and you will probably not find anyone anywhere to do it. To apply porcelain, the tub has to be heated to a red hot condition, and that can only be done in a furnace.: My wife & I are having our bath remodeled.
