sometimes when the water is used in my home, and you shut it off, the pipes make a groaning sound for anywhere from 30 sec. to a full minute. Occasionally you can stop it by flushing the toilet, what is causing this and how can I fix it?

[drains] and by putting cold water from toilet it stops the pipes from growing try running hot water down a drain for a min. to get noise started then flush toilet if noise stops you know that one of your drains is rubbing on wood somewhere thats the spot you have to find get pipe away.
