What a great site -thanks so much! My toilet has recently started whistling loudly. It sounds like a teakettle and is happening so frequently that its almost been a steady noise the past few days. For the past couple of months, Ive also noticed a gurgling noise in it every so often. Could these two problems be related?

Could : these two problems be related?I am assuming the whistling happens when the toilet is filling with water, also gurgling while filling. Try replacing the fill valve. Recommend Fluidmaster 400. pipewerks

CINDY, YOU MAY WANT TO CHECK SUPPLY STOP AND SUPPLY TUBE TO BE SURE ITS NOT PARTIALLY PLUGED,OR THAT SUPPLY STOP IS PARTIALLY CLOSED.IF YOU DETERMINE THAT THE BALLCOCK IS THE PROBLEM,DO NOT INSTALL A FLUIDMASTER 400A BALLCOCK.THEY ARE NOT RELIABLE ENOUGH. I HAVE PERSONALLY BEEN TO AS MANY AS 25 HOMES IN THE PAST YEAR ALONE WHERE THEY HAVE FAILLED TO SHUT OFF CAUSING MANY FLOODED HOMES.MY BEST RECOMMENDATION IS TO USE EITHER A HOOVERLINE OR COAST BRAND .

Thanks, Ross Plumbing! If youve personally seen 25 failures of the Fluidmaster 400 ballcock in the past year, Ill be sure to stay away from it. Don;t they have recalls for plumbing parts?

The wrong message got posted for me..Fluidmaster ballcock are the simplest to install or repair. THey are the largest producer of ballcocks in the world. They have a web Fluidmaster.com with many toilet repair hints, also they have a technical group which will answer any question you may have on toilets. Their phone number is 800 631 2011.
