thermal expansion tank

I recently had an expansion tank installed.The plumber put it in the HOT water line. Everything i have read shows the expansion tank being installed in the COLD water line. Is it acceptable to have the tank in the hot water line?

As long as the tank does not get hot from the water i the line flowing close to it, and it should not, then there is no difference in the locations.: I recently had an expansion tank installed.The plumber put it in the HOT water line.
