: Looking for methods of calculating stand-by losses for electric, storage-type water heaters. Any tips?Try this: 8.25(V)(x)(TS-TA) V= volume of water in tank (gallons) 8.25= factor representing the volumetric heat capacity of water at 122F x= fractional loss per hour of energy content of tank (.015 for standard electric water heaters) TS= storage temperature in F TA= ambient outside tank temperature
