Howdy, I keep getting salt bridges in my softner. I use a broom stick to break them and my husband thinks we should our hot water on it to dissolve it. What is the best way to get rid of these bridges and also preven them. Also, how good are these magnetic softners? Thanks, Kathie Williams

All scientific test of the magnets show that they do not work. But people who sell them will give all kinds of testimonials that people love them. The salt bridges are not usually a problem if youuse a good pellet salt.: Howdy, : I keep getting salt bridges in my softner. Magnetics have been used by NASA, USAF and large commercial companys for years. Recently the US Dept of Energy issued a report specifically stating that magnetic water conditioning was the PREFERRED method of treating for hard water scale. The ONLY people who say the system doesnt work are those with an economic interest in conventional water softening like Culligan and the Water Quality Association. I give an unconditional 6 month money back guarantee on my system. Would I do that if Iwas selling a product that didnt work? Please review my web site at http://scalefighter.com. If you have questions, please call.Dennis

You dont say what brand it is but I would guess it is a Sears. Let the salt run low, then wash down the walls to remove the sticky coating. Use crystal salt instead of the pellets. The pellets have a binding agent to hold the unnattural shape (salt is a crystal) of the pellet. This binder causes the salt to stick to everything when it gets wet. Next time get a two tank water softener.

Roger, what is a two tank softener… I have a Sears, is this something Sears makes or do I have to look elsewhere?

PERSONALLY I DO NOT BELIEVE IN MAGNETIC WATER TREATMENT. AFTER 9 1/2 YEARS IN THE INDUSTRY I HAVE SEEN ALL KIND OF QUICK FIXES COME AND GO. AND MAGNETIT TREATMENT IS ANOTHER.AS FOR YOUR SALT PROBLEM, FIRST DOES YOUR BRINE TANK HAVE A GRIG PLATE IN THE BOTTOM OF IT ? THIS WILL HELP. IF IT DOES IS THE SYSTEM OPERATING PROPERLY.MAKE SURE THE SYSTEM IS REGENERATING. MANUALY ROTATE THE VALVE SO IT WILL DRAW BRINE, THEN DICONNECT THE BRINE LINE FROM THE BRINE TANK AND SEE IF THE LINE HAS A STRONG SUCTION ON IT. IF NOT THE VETURE AND SCREEN NEEDS CLEANED. IF YOU ARE ON WELL WATER MAKE SURE YOU PRESSURE IS ATLEAST 30/50 PSI. IF EVERY THING SEEMS TO BE WORKING CHANGE THE KIND OF SALT YOU ARE USING SSTAY AWAY FROM BLOCK TYPE SALTS THEY HAVE HIGHER IMPURITIES AND WILL NOT DISSOLVE ALL THE WAY CAUSING BRIDGING. PRE-FILTER YOUR SYSTEM WITH A 5 OR 20 MICRON PRE-FILTER THIS WILL HELP KEEP YOUR SYSTEM CLEAN.IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS GET INTOUCH WITH ME HAVE A GOOD DAY.

Kathy the best way to solve your problem is to add salt to your brine tank only when you start to see water above the salt

I have dealt with this problem often. I own a water treatment company.

The hot water tastes bad, what is wrong? steve the problem is in your hot water heater if you only smell sulfer in the hot water. soft water makes water a litte corrosive. your anoid in the hot water heater is causing the odor, you could just remove the anode but that may void manufacture warranty. also it was not caused by changeing the salt, it just took time for the anode to desolve
