I bought a house that has four heated stories (basement, first & second, attic). Two floors have cast iron radiators, two floors have copper baseboard. The system is NOT zoned. Can I replace the copper baseboards with cast iron baseboards? Where can I get cast iron baseboards. Whats an average cost? One of my baseboards has a 90 degree turn. Can this be done in cast iron baseboard?
Cast iron baseboard has approx the same output per foot as copper. You would think it would be more but the thing is it holds the heat like the rads do. That is the main selling point when hooking it up to a system with existing cast iron rads. Down side is it will run you about $40 a foot. The baseboard has special 90 degree fittings but this stuff is hard to install for someone who has never done it. Is there no way to zone the floors? That would be the best thing to look into first. Unless you are really set to get the cast. Any supply house has access to it. Burnham makes it. Easily available.
I need to find some one that has cast iron radiators they are 20inch. high by 8inchs accross. Have a old farm home and system was not winterized enough. Broke out 5 ends on these old radiators and would like to replace with the same units. Purchased them about 50 years ago and still work so nice. The length on them desnt matter I just need 5 ends and 5 midle inserts.
